Yet again, Uncle Bill has decided to show up unannounced at the Donaldson family’s home, hoping he can stay a few days with them like he has done in the past. The morning after his arrival, the message ‘Is it safe’ is fingered in the condensation on the glass of the kitchen window. No one understands how or why this message is on the window. Uncle Bill says he was just pulling a prank on the family, but sisters Isla and Mae have a gut feeling he’s lying to everyone.
When sisters Mae and Isla Donaldson begin to notice some strange things happening around their town of Cockermouth, they do what they both do best. Mae takes to writing things in code in her journal to help her recall details about things that she can refer to later on. Only she understands her coded writing. Isla, her younger sister, loves to draw everything in her sketch book. She draws things that catch her eye, including things that seem strangely happening in their town.
